Dear Memorial Families,
On Friday, November 4th, kindergarten and first grade students attended a PTO sponsored Veterans Day assembly. Thank you to Captain and Cadet Wilson for teaching us about veterans, the five branches of the military and the meaning of freedom. We loved singing patriotic songs and seeing photos of the many different ways that members of the army, navy, marines, air force and coast guard serve our country.
Thank you to all veterans who are serving or who have served our country. We are so grateful for your service.

When: Monday, November 7 @ 9AM
Where: Memorial School Teachers' Room
What: Parent/Teacher Conferences
We’re growing a
Storybook Pumpkin Patch
at The Memorial School Library starting October 18
Students are invited to decorate a pumpkin to look like a favorite book character. Just bring it to the library to plant in our
Storybook Pumpkin Patch!
- Think of your favorite book and design a pumpkin based on your favorite character from that book.
- Purchase a pumpkin that is no larger in size than a basketball - smaller is good too!
- Gather your decorating supplies! Acrylic paints or permanent markers work best. Watercolors tend to run, and spray paint will gradually dissolve the pumpkin. Other options include adding materials such as yarn, buttons, wiggly eyes, etc.
- Decorate your pumpkin without carving, cutting, or poking holes in it.
- Bring your pumpkin and entry page to school beginning Tuesday, October 18th.
- Pumpkins go home anytime after Tuesday, November 1st (Tues-Fri please) If your child needs assistance getting it home, please make arrangements to do this. Pumpkins that begin to rot will be tossed.
- This is an at home activity and participation is completely voluntary.

I'm very proud to report that Memorial students did a wonderful job on Tuesday practicing bus evacuation drills. Great job boys and girls!
Thanks to the PTO, the Ocean Lady returned for the second part of her visit today. Children in Mrs. Teany's, Mrs. Guilbert's, Mrs. Mahoney's and Mrs. McAvoy's classes spent a hour learning about and touching baleen, shells, starfish, horseshoe crabs, spiny crabs, and lobsters. Be sure to check out the photos in the Memorial Blog. Also, if you didn't see the recent article in the Medfield Press, be sure to check it out for more info.

Dear Memorial Families,
It's hard to believe that our first month of school has come and gone and that it's October already! I hope that everyone has settled in and that the year is off to a great start.
Bus Evacuation Drill - Tuesday, October 11th
Every year, the Memorial School students participate in a Bus Evacuation Drill as part of Massachusetts state requirements. These drills, similar to our fire and safety drills, are designed to prepare students in the event of an emergency. Bus evacuation drills are conducted by the bus driver with the assistance of the School Resource Officer. The driver will explain the purpose of the drill, demonstrate the procedure and students will then practice leaving the bus via the emergency exits.

This hands-on presentation allows the kids to explore sea creatures, artifacts and even make fish prints. These are just a few of the pictures that highlight this outstanding program.

This year our teachers are involved in professional development to support instruction in both math and ELA. Professional development takes place during Common Planning Time, Curriculum Meetings, and Early Release Days. In addition, teachers have a 1/2 day scheduled each month in which they work with our Literacy Content Specialist, Jamee Callahan or our math consultant, Shephali Fox.
Have a wonderful weekend!
